النسخة العربية ↗How to use the VAT calculator
- Choose the country, or Other rate to type any percentage.
- Pick Add VAT to a price or Remove VAT from a total.
- Type the amount. You see the price before VAT, the VAT amount and the total, ready to copy.
The two formulas
Adding VAT: total = price × (1 + rate). At 5%, a 1,000 AED item costs 1,000 × 1.05 = 1,050 AED.
Removing VAT from a VAT-inclusive total: price before VAT = total ÷ (1 + rate). At 15%, a receipt of 1,150 SAR contains 1,150 ÷ 1.15 = 1,000 SAR before VAT and 150 SAR of VAT. A common mistake is to take 15% of 1,150 (172.50), which overstates the tax.
Standard VAT rates in the Gulf
| Country | Standard rate | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | 15% | ZATCA |
| United Arab Emirates | 5% | Federal Tax Authority |
| Bahrain | 10% | National Bureau for Revenue |
| Oman | 5% | Tax Authority |
Some goods and services are zero-rated or exempt, so always check the official authority for your case: ZATCA in Saudi Arabia and the Federal Tax Authority in the UAE. This calculator gives general estimates and is not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate 5% VAT in the UAE?
Multiply the price by 1.05 to get the total, or by 0.05 to get only the VAT. For 200 AED, VAT is 10 AED and the total is 210 AED.
How do I remove 15% VAT from a Saudi price?
Divide the VAT-inclusive price by 1.15. For 115 SAR, the price before VAT is 100 SAR and the VAT is 15 SAR.
Why not just take 15% of the total?
Because the total already contains the VAT. Taking 15% of it overstates the tax; divide by 1.15 instead.
Is this calculator tax advice?
No. It does the arithmetic. Exemptions and special cases depend on the rules of each tax authority.
